Under the Radar

“The Value‐added secrets of Lower Mainland smaller Airports”

The airports of Abbotsford, Boundary Bay, Langley and Pitt Meadows combined serve approximately 50% more air traffic movements than YVR. In 2016 these 469,000 landings and take‐offs supported business, training, passenger and recreational flying and play an important part in the Lower Mainland economy.

You likely didn’t know that Boundary Bay Airport is 5th in Canada in terms of total movements and first in local movements. Langley Airport is focused on helicopters and has the largest helicopter servicing facility in Western Canada.

The theme “Under the Radar” reflects the fact that most people, even in the transportation/logistics sector, have little knowledge or appreciation for the amazing aviation/business activity, much of it international, generated by our regional airports. Here are some facts:

  • Abbotsford, Boundary Bay, Langley and Pitt Meadows Airports serve 50% more air traffic movements than YVR
  • 2016, 469,000 landings and take-offs supported business, training, passenger/recreational flying
  • Boundary Bay is 5thin Canada in total movements and first in local movements
  • Langley Airport is focused on helicopters and has the largest helicopter servicing facility in Western Canada
  • Pitt Meadows and Boundary Bay have extended runways this year
  • Boundary Bay is the site of a huge new commercial distribution warehouse
  • Langley and Pitt Meadows are building new control towers
  • Abbotsford is home to WestJet and no-frills carrier SWOOP

Breakfast cost is $40 and $35 for students. As is traditional with our events, we ask for your generosity in sponsoring students in Transportation/Logistics, International Business, Aviation/Aerospace programs from BCIT, UBC and Capilano U. Students are our leaders of tomorrow and they so appreciate the opportunity you give them to attend Pacific Chapter events.

Registration for you (and one or more student) is available online at http://www.ciltna.com/event-registration or by cheque made out to CILTNA, Pacific Chapter with the attached registration form to Marian Robson, 1210 West 8th Avenue, Apt. 404, Vancouver, BC  V6H 3Y9.
