Department: Baggage Operations

Reports to: Carillion Customer Care Manager, YVRAA Manager of Baggage Operations

The Ball Hall Operations Coordinator will ensure the safe and efficient coordination of YVR outbound baggage halls

Interfaces with: Baggage Operations, Baggage and Gate Schedulers, Baggage Operations sub-contractors, Airlines, Ground Handlers and Project Construction resources

General Description:

The Bag Hall Operations Coordinator will develop a strong understanding of all outbound baggage systems in each baggage hall, to include processes offered to complement seamless passenger transfers through Vancouver. The Bag Hall Operations Coordinator will be able to supervise daily operations in an engaged and optimistic manner, utilizing a variety of available data to identify volumes and determine successful movement of baggage flows. This position works closely with Baggage Operations, Baggage and Gate Schedulers, airlines, sub-contractors, and project construction resources.

Specific Responsibilities & Duties:

  • Supervises the daily operations of outbound baggage in all baggage halls;
  • Ensures BHOC relief associates are trained according to the Standard Operating Procedures;
  • Responds to emergencies, alarms and irregular operations as directed by a Manager or YVR Operations;
  • Works closely with Baggage and Gate Schedulers to provide input on bag hall operations;
  • Meets daily with ground handler leads and serves as point of contact in bag halls for Baggage Operations;
  • Monitors construction activities in the bag hall, coordinates with Baggage and Gate Schedulers if required, and involves Construction Safety when necessary;
  • Alerts Baggage Operations of any unapproved work being performed;
  • Stays informed, inspects and reports debris left by contractors;
  • Identifies, reports and tracks deficiencies daily in the Bag Halls;
  • Assists baggage handlers and Baggage Operations, assuring the Standard Operating Procedures are adhered to and advising Baggage Operations if issues need addressing;
  • Prepares a daily log of events for Baggage Operations;
  • Attends meetings with Baggage Operations;
  • Attends the Daily Operations briefing; and
  • Additional duties as required.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum one year supervisory experience;
  • Post-Secondary Education or related hospitality training or equivalent experience is necessary;
  • Previous experience is the Service industry, preferably with the Airport and/or an Airline;
  • Must be an active team player, highly organized, results- and detail-oriented, and capable of managing multiple functions;
  • Strong customer service instinct and a professional manner;
  • Must be able to work with minimal supervision and be self-motivated and resourceful;
  • Must be neat, professional, and well groomed;
  • Strong leadership skills with excellent critical thinking, initiative, judgment, and sense of responsibility;
  • Strong interpersonal skills, with an ability to demonstrate tact, diplomacy, confidentiality, discretion, and sound judgment;
  • Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills with an excellent command of the English language;
  • Advanced knowledge of technology solutions, including various hardware and software platforms;
  • Must be available to work flexible hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays;
  • Must have the ability to acquire and maintain a Restricted Area Identification Card;
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs.
