Report on Lunch event with Viking Air CEO, Dave Curtis

The 20 May lunch with guest speaker Dave Curtis was held at the Delta Vancouver Airport Hotel in Richmond and drew a sold-out crowd.  All came to hear him speak about the success of Viking Air in re-starting production of the iconic Twin Otter. It is a great made-in-BC story of determination and innovation in bringing a better than ever Twin Otter back into the market place.

We are grateful to Dave for taking time to join us and providing such a great presentation for the appreciative audience.

2010 Annual General Meeting

Chairman’s Report

The well-attended 2010 AGM took place at the Richmond Airport Delta Hotel at 2:00 PM on Thursday, 20 May.  In his address, Chairman Mike Matthews highlighted the key achievements of 2009 which included the success of the expanded Board of 15 Directors in minimizing expenditures, re-structuring membership fees and implementing debt reduction strategies.and implementing debt reduction strategies.

Mike noted the great contribution to the successful year by the Council’s only staff member, Donna Farquhar, BCAC Administrator, who manages virtually all aspects of the administration and operations  including the new website. The addition of pay-online capability to the web site was an important component in reducing administrative burden.

The introduction of the new BCAC Logo has been well received and the use of the web site is steadily building. Successful events staged in 2009 included our association with the YVR Koffee Klutch Golf Tournament and the Silver Wings Awards Banquet.

Going forward, Mike said that the Council priorities would focus on eliminating long term debt and building a diversified membership. Major events for 2010 include:

·       Fall Conference and Silver Wings Banquet 3-4 November

·       29 June Koffee Klutch Golf Tournament

Treasurers Report

Diana Vuong reported a favourable result for the year’s operations with a positive cash flow from operations and an improved overall bottom line. Diana noted that expenditures had been successfully controlled and together with debt retirement and steady income the Council’s operating account was moving toward a stable financial situation.

In calling for a motion to adopt the Treasurer’s report, the Chair recognized the dedicated and sustained effort that Diana has contributed in establishing a comprehensive and compliant  accounting system.

The Scholarship Fund benefitted from improving investment climate and also from funds generated by events. The generous agreement by Companies that had lent funds to the Council in earlier years to allow conversion of those amounts to contributions to the Scholarship Fund has been of great benefit to management of the Council’s finances.
