Silver Wings – The Golden Opportunity

Help build the future of Canadian aviation; be part of BCAC VISION 2020

In 2009 BCAC was able to distribute a total of $9,000 in scholarships. This year, with the addition of Helijet and Harbour Air’s corporate scholarships, BCAC will be distributing just over $50,000 to further aviation education in B.C.

These scholarships are divided into both legacy funds (a gift or donation in memory of a person or event) and corporate funds (directed to education needs of the corporation). The scholarships cover the full range of education needs from mechanics to pilots and mid-career advancement.

BCAC funds are managed through our endowment fund (currently sitting at approximately $300,000) and through annual directed funds from individuals and corporations of approximately $35,000 dollars. With the increasing demand for new aviation professionals BCAC is committed to growing this fund. Next year’s target is to distribute $60,000 in scholarships.

Please join us in achieving this goal. If you would like to establish a legacy fund in honour of an individual, an event, or a corporate need, please talk to us. Your kids and our BC Aviation students will thank you.

The Need

  • The boomer generation will leave the industry over the next number of years – 19% of ATPL ratings are 50 – 60 years old – 45% of AMEs are over 50
  • There is no indication that the need for pilots and AMEs will diminish
  • The cost of pursuing a career in aviation continues to be high

Our Goal

  • The BCAC endowment fund now stands at $280,000
  • Our vision for 2020 is $1,000,000
  • We aspire to offer scholarships valued at $2,500 to 25 individuals each year by 2020.

How can you help?

  • Corporate donations – A special endowment fund to celebrate your company’s commitment to aviation
  • Individual and legacy funds – A special endowment fund in your name now and into the future
  • Give as you can – bid generously on the items at BCAC events – all the money collected goes directly into the endowment fund
