Scholarships – Building for the Future

Help Build the Future of Canadian Aviation and Aerospace; Be Part of BCAC SCHOLARSHIP VISION 2025

In 2009, BCAC distributed $9,000 in scholarships. In 2022, with the welcome addition of Helijet and Harbour Air’s corporate scholarships, BCAC will distribute over $70,000 to further aviation and aerospace education in British Columbia. This makes the BCAC aviation and aerospace scholarship program the second largest in Canada.

Scholarships are divided into legacy funds (a gift or donation celebrating a family, the memory of a person or event) and corporate funds (supporting the future needs of the industry). Our scholarships cover the full range of education needs from mechanics to pilots to mid-career advancement.

BCAC Scholarships are awarded from the returns on our endowment fund (currently sitting at approximately $450,000) plus annual funding from individuals and corporations of approximately $35,000 dollars. Our Province faces increasing demand for new aviation professionals and BCAC, responding to this challenge, is committed to growing this fund. Our target for 2025 is to distribute over $100,000 in scholarships.

We need your help. If you would like to establish a legacy fund in honour of an individual, an event, or a corporate need, please talk to us. Our BC aviation and aerospace students will thank you.

The Need

  • The boomer generation will leave the industry over the next number of years – 19% of Airline Transport Pilot Licence (ATPL) ratings are 50 – 60 years old – 45% of Aircraft Maintenance Engineers (AMEs) are over 50;
  • There is no indication that the need for pilots and AMEs will diminish;
  • Growing need for customer service agents and managers throughout the industry is also a reality;
  • The cost of pursuing a career in aviation and aerospace continues to be high.

Our Goal

  • The BCAC endowment fund now stands near $450,000;
  • Our vision for 2025 is $1,000,000;
  • The Council aspires to offer scholarships averaging $2,500 to 40 individuals each year by 2025.

How Can You help?

  • Corporate donations – Create a special endowment fund to celebrate your company’s commitment to aviation and aerospace;
  • Individual and legacy funds – Create a special endowment fund in your name now and into the future;
  • Give as you can – bid generously on the items at BCAC events – half the money collected goes directly into the scholarship endowment fund. Or donate what you can to any of our existing scholarship funds.
