Twenty-five YVR firefighters were serving up breakfast on Thursday at Templeton Canada Line Station.
Fundraising efforts by firefighters at the Vancouver International Airport and the YVR Airport Authority this year went beyond what they normally do, with a total impact of $50,000. For 10 years, YVR firefighters have been holding a pancake breakfast to raise money for the BC Burn Fund and this year about 300 people came to Templeton Canada Line Station to enjoy a freshly grilled breakfast, raising $15,000.
But given this has been the worst wildfire season on record in B.C., the money raised at Thursday’s pancake breakfast was matched dollar for dollar by the airport’s Social Impact Program and split between the BC Burn Fund and the Canadian Red Cross to support efforts to fight wildfires in B.C. and the Northwest Territories.

“We are always humbled by the great support of our colleagues, passengers, and business partners who join us to support causes important to our employees,” said Jody Armstrong, senior social impact strategist with the YVR Airport Authority. The Airport Authority has further raised $9,500 for Canadian Red Cross and made a $25,000 donation.
