What inspired you to get into aviation?

I always wondered how airports operate. How so many people from different backgrounds, performing different tasks, working with different companies, join forces with a common goal to facilitate air travel? I was curious to know what goes on behind the scenes and how the various airport stakeholders harmonize to serve travelling passengers. This curiosity inspired my journey into airport management and the aviation industry.

Where are you from and what brought you to Canada?

I am originally from Nigeria and moved to Canada because it is considered the Aviation hub of the world. I have worked in Africa and Europe and I wanted to expand my international experience to North America, and Canada was my country of choice. I also worked for the Airports Council International (ACI) headquartered in Montreal, which also informed my choice of Canada. I’m glad that I took that bold step to move here, I have met so many amazing people, built my network and hopefully I can experience more of the sights and sounds of Canada post covid.

What do you love most about your work (or aviation)?

MEETING AMAZING PEOPLE! Aviation has exposed me to the world. I have had the opportunity to travel across the world, meet and work with incredible people from diverse background, all possessing a common passion for the aviation industry. It’s a huge industry but it’s also really small. I say this because no matter who you are or where you’re from, the love for the industry brings us all together into a tight knit family. I can certainly say I have an Aviation family, I have made friends and built lifelong relationships.

Favourite place to travel (in a non-COVID world)?

I don’t have a favourite travel destination yet because I’m still exploring the world. However I would say Mauritius is on the top of my list. I visited once for work and I am looking forward to visiting again in a Non-covid world.

Why did you join the Youth Engagement Committee?

I joined BCAC because I was looking for ways to give back to the industry especially during this unprecedented time of the pandemic. I was told about the Youth Engagement Committee, all the fantastic work being done and ideas they had to encourage and engage the youths in the industry. I was totally sold! The level commitment, dedication, and passion for aviation that I have witnessed from the YEC members is outstanding and it gives me so much joy knowing that the future of the aviation industry will be in great hands.

What message do young people in aviation need to hear today?

The message of resilience… This too shall pass! The industry is going to bounce back bigger and stronger; your hard work and enthusiasm for the industry will pay off and you’ll be glad you didn’t give up.
