BC Aviation Council Response to Transportation Safety Board Report on 2008 Float plane accident

The British Columbia Aviation Council has reviewed the findings of the TSB report on the 2008 float plane accident on Thormanby Island on the Sunshine Coast.  Council Chair Mike Matthews notes: “In response to this and other accidents, we are pleased that Transport Canada has established a consultative group from the floatplane/air taxi industry to work together in addressing operational issues of this important transportation sector.  The BC Aviation Council will participate as a member of this consultative group process.”

The report indicates that weather conditions were a significant contributing factor to this accident.  The Council believes that improved weather reporting throughout the BC coast is necessary to provide pilots with more complete information on which to base operational decisions.
