Communities and Airports facing airport sustainability issues – a little over a decade after airport privatization it is clear that many airports are not sustainable.  The reasons are lack of funding for quickly developing airports, regulatory creep, lack of revenue to cover infrastructure expenses, and, in the case of NAS airports, high lease payments to the federal government reducing competitiveness versus US alternatives.
