Silver Wings Awards coming up October 26
The B.C. Aviation Council (BCAC) celebrates the 2016 winners of both its industry awards and the aviation related scholarships at its annual Silver Wings Awards gala on October 26, 2016.
BCAC has been honoring its industry colleagues in this fashion since 1961 and in so doing, continues to highlight the many achievements of its members. Students in aviation studies continue to benefit from the annual scholarships presented, this year totaling $23,500.

The Silver Wings Awards Gala is BCAC’s premier event and is attended by many industry professionals, students and those interested in aviation. The event is a key networking event and the space at the Vancouver Convention Centre allows for guests to mingle throughout the evening. BCAC ensures there is ample time to network and connect with colleagues before and after the awards ceremony. Registration desk opens at 6:00pm. Enjoy great food, music, and silent auction bidding throughout. The highlight of event is awards ceremony showcasing our industry winners as well as scholarship winners. Finish the evening with networking over dessert!

Industry Award Winners
- Aviation Entrepreneur of the Year – Ken Norie, President and CEO of the Vancouver Island Helicopters (VIH) Aviation Group of Companies, for showing effective entrepreneurial leadership that has grown VIH and its other subsidiary companies to prosper into one of the largest helicopter maintenance and operations enterprises in the world.
- William Templeton Award – Port McNeill Airport, for commitment to growth and development to better serve its community.
- BCAC Environmental Award – Prince Rupert Airport, for implementation of a ground breaking sustainability project – The Rainwater Harvesting Project.
- Robert S. Day Trophy – Villi Douglas, Port Hardy Airport, for his outstanding contribution, leadership and dedication to the regional air transportation system.
- Back and Bevington Air Safety Award – Darlene George and Simon Dennis, Nav Canada, Victoria Tower, for development of the PrepAIR seminars with the concept of information exchange to foster better relations and improve safety.
- Lifetime Achievement Award – Terry Jones, Operations Manager, Advantage Helicopters, for his outstanding commitment and contributions to the development of the aviation industry.
- Lifetime Achievement Award – Danny Sitnam, President, Helijet International Inc., for visionary leadership in building one of Canada’s premier airlines offering B.C.’s travelling public a first class service with the highest of safety standards.
