Dear Industry Stakeholder,
In 2009, the Aerospace and Aviation industry in British Columbia brought together a committee funded by the Labour Market Partnerships program to identify potential skills shortages, recruitment and retention challenges, training shortfalls, and issues concerning trade certification.
The two main objectives of this committee were:
• To research, validate, identify, address, and resolve the human resource needs including training and certification programs
• Increase employer participation in program development and implementation of new training programs to ensure the training programs meet market demands and are more reflective of the needs of industry employers
The industry committee recommended a number of changes which includes a review of the structures and maintenance in-school technical training and the creation of a manufacturing program. These recommendations were supported by industry through extensive stakeholder engagement.
The interim report can be read at: http://www.tcda.ca/PDF/final_benefits_report.pdf
As a result, two workshops will be conducted to review the content of the Maintenance and Structures programs, and to create a manufacturing program that aligns with structures. The objectives of the workshops are:
• To ensure all Transport Canada requirements are maintained
• To ensure industry training needs outside of Transport Canada requirements are being met.
• To identify the scope of each occupation within an Occupational Analysis chart.
The workshops will occur on the following dates:
Structures/Manufacturing– May 30-June 03, 2011, Location TBD in Lower Mainland from 8:30 AM to 4:00 PM
Maintenance –June 06-June 10, 2011, location TBD inLower Mainland from 8:30 AM to 4:00 PM
*Morning coffee, lunch, and break refreshments will be provided.
We are looking for 5 Subject Matter Experts working on the tools to participate in the Maintenance workshop, and 5 Subject Matter Experts working on the tools to participate in the Structures-Manufacturing workshop. As the provincial government through the LMPP is funding this important work, we ask wherever possible the manpower contribution to both workshops be in-kind. If this is not possible due to circumstances, a per diem may be available to ensure small organizations are able to participate in this industry led project.
Please reply by email no later than April 30, 2011 with your Subject Matter Expert nominations, identifying which workshop they will attend.
The committee would like to thank you in advance for your contribution to this important initiative and we look forward to hearing from you. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me at gshorland@tcda.ca.
Sincerely,
Greg Shorland
