Beyond COVID: A Focus on Sustainability, Technology and Opportunities

The BCAC is pleased to extend an invitation to our first post-COVID, in-person conference at the beautiful Inn at Laurel Point in scenic Victoria, BC, from May 15th-17th, 2022.

The aviation industry has survived one of its toughest challenges yet with the worldwide COVID-19 pandemic. Virtually no sector escaped the human and financial stresses of the past two years with air traffic grinding to a halt. From this bleak picture emerges an industry rebounding with strength and passion to meet the demands of air travel. As all sectors resume operations, it’s an opportune time to focus on the issues of today and the future. Please join us as our panellists and speakers explore current and future industry initiatives. See what’s here today and what lies ahead!

Agenda Highlights

Join us for our exciting panel discussion, “Aviation and the Environment – The Urgent Challenge”. Our distinguished guests, Dr. Andrew Weaver, Professor, School of Earth and Ocean Sciences, University of Victoria; Marcelo Garcia, Senior Director, InterVISTAS; and Ken Gallant, Vice-President Operations, Victoria International Airport, will discuss the facts on climate change, aviation’s footprint on the environment, and what’s ahead for airports and aircraft.

Conference attendees will have the pleasure of hearing Greg McDougall, CEO, Harbour Air, to tell the story of the world’s first electric powered commercial De Havilland Beaver and its epic flight in 2019 at the Reception and Signature dinner on the evening of Monday, May 16th. We can’t wait! Also, please enjoy this short video, taken by the BC Aviation Council’s own Executive Director, Dave Frank, of this historic occasion.

We’re sure you won’t want to miss Danny Sitnam’s talk about the opportunities and challenges of developing an eVTOL rotary wing aircraft for the commercial market. Danny is the President and CEO of Helijet International and, as the champion of one of the most successful all-weather, scheduled rotary wing passenger services in the world, Danny and his team are on the cusp of designing and building a viable e-powered helicopter for the future.

We’re excited to have such a great team on our panel, “Power Plants and the Fuels of the Future”, including Geoff Tauvette, Executive Director, Canadian Council For Sustainable Fuels and Tim Swail, Vice-President, Sales and Marketing – Regional Aviation & APU Products, Pratt & Whitney Canada. The “greening” of our industry is going to require the application of new and advanced technologies. This panel will highlight some of the power plant initiatives currently underway and planned for the future. Existing operator demand for change will also be explored plus a look at current and future fuel options. Join us to learn more about this important topic!

Attractive May Conference Sponsorships Still Available

A wide-range of sponsorship opportunities are still available for the May Conference 2022 “Beyond Covid: A Focus on Sustainability, Technology and Opportunity” in Victoria. This includes, for the first time, the ability to setup your vertical banner in the main presentation room for a $125 contribution. This draws on a past BCAC tradition of producing vinyl signs and mounting them high on the conference walls at all hours of the evening! Don’t have a vertical banner? Westholme Graphics, with their focus on aviation graphics and printing, is offering top quality vertical banners (including graphic design and delivery to the conference) for $435.

If you have any questions about sponsorship opportunities, or encounter any difficulties registering for the conference or booking your hotel room, please don’t hesitate to contact Dave Frank, Executive Director, BCAC at your convenience. Looking forward to seeing you there!
