Canada’s airports launch Safety Week

Oct 2, 2017

Today, Kelowna International Airport (YLW), along with 29 airports across Canada, have kicked off Canadian Airports Safety Week, an airport-led initiative to promote healthy and safe work practices among airport employees. All airport staff, whether they are working in the terminal building or on the airfield, will be encouraged to take part in themed discussions and events throughout the week.

“At YLW, every team member makes it his or her priority to ensure the airport remains safe, secure and operational, said Sam Samaddar, Airport Director. “Safety Week is a great opportunity to refresh our skills and remember that safety should always come first.”

Canadian Airports Safety Week, which is occurring between October 2nd and October 6th, will have a different theme each day. They are as follows:

  • Day 1 – Monday, Oct. 2: Worker Safety
  • Day 2 – Tuesday, Oct. 3: Airside Safety
  • Day 3 – Wednesday, Oct. 4: Security Safety
  • Day 4 – Thursday, Oct.5: Hazard Reporting & Environmental Safety
  • Day 5 – Friday, Oct. 6: Foreign Object Debris (FOD) Free Friday

YLW will be hosting a variety of talks throughout the week to promote day safety messages to the airport community. It will also be hosting a Foreign Object Debris (FOD) Walk and Barbecue on Friday, Oct. 6, which will be open to the media.
