The 2009 Annual General Meeting of the Council took place at the Delta Vancouver Airport Hotel on May 26th. There were over 30 people in attendance including a number of students from the pilot training program at BCIT.
In his President’s Report, Mike Matthews outlined future directions for the council, setting the stage for presentations on proposed amendments to the Constitution and Bylaws along with a new membership and fee structure for the organization.
“I am pleased that the proposals put forward by the new board were accepted unanimously, by not only those in attendance but 25 additional members who had given me their proxy vote” said Mr. Matthews. “This is tremendously encouraging and sets the stage for an exciting year for the organization”.
The Constitution that was adopted focuses the activities of the council on 4 key objectives:
- To promote, stimulate and encourage the safe and orderly development, growth and advancement of aviation and aerospace
- To engage in fund-raising activities in support of education and training of human resources to meet the skill requirements of aviation and aerospace
- To provide communications and information services to members and provide members with networking opportunities
- To co-operate with any society, body or organization toward the attainment of the objects of the Society, and if deemed advisable by the Board, to become a member of such other society, body or organization
Changes to the bylaws included provisions to expand the Board to 15 members, allowing for cross sector and regional representation. The election of 12 nominees to the board was completed and following the meeting, the Board met briefly to confirm the appointment of two additional members.
